Do you like short board game-like experiences where you do a run at a time and unlock more options? How about futuristic espionage in a global scale where each action matters? If yes, then Sigma Theory might be the game for you.

It was a collaborative development between Mi-Clos Studio and Goblinz Studio, alongside with French game designer FibreTigre.

In Sigma Theory: Global Cold War, you play as the director of the Sigma division of a country of your choice. You are tasked with not only handling the research for a new scientific discovery called “Sigma Theory”, but to also make sure your country is the one that comes out on top by any means necessary!

When you start the game, alongside your character, you create your spouse and you choose your agents, from a pool of different people, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The game is turn-based and each turn you can take a variety of actions, mainly through your picked agents, like to infiltrate a country or try and take out an enemy agent. At some points you might need to extract an agent and you get to a mini-game where you take quick choices, trying to manage the agent’s skills and weaknesses, and help them escape from the special forces that are chasing them.

All in all, Sigma Theory is a pretty good game, reminiscent of single-player board games, filled with an interesting story and captivating themes. A single playthrough can be pretty quick (took me around an hour-and-half) but it has great replayability, plus it’s generally fun to play!
